A new sim racing game called Boxenstopp is aiming to shake up the genre with an unconventional approach. Slated to launch in closed beta in 2031, the game won’t include licenced tracks or cars. Instead, it features fictional circuits like ‘Bilverstone’ and ‘Buzuka’, with a heavy focus on community-created content to sidestep licensing costs.
Co-CEO Bunai Semery says traditional sim features like rain or tyre wear won’t be included, calling them “nerdy” and used by only a small group of players. The priority instead is a fully integrated in-game sales system, complete with QR codes for merchandise and NFTs—described as sim racing’s first “true sales loop”.
While the physics engine is said to be built from scratch (but with some ISImotor inspiration), the multiplayer will use a ranking system similar to Call of Duty. A full release is planned for 2037—though the team admits that version 1.0 “may never happen”.
Sign-ups for the closed beta are open now, with the first 100,000 players promised lifetime marketing emails.
